I've kept up with the news while on vacation. Biden does nothing, IMO, to get real progressives looking at going Green to stay in the Dem tent.

NO, NO on Chet Edwards as Veep
This would be, what, reason No. 232 to not vote for Obama. I don’t give a damn if The Dallas Morning News’ Michael Landauer (not the sharpest knife in their editorial drawer, IMO) is flogging him along with 5,000 other people.
First, he voted to invade Iraq.
Second, he was one of the Democratic 45 percenters who voted to amend FISA.
Third, he’s piss-poor on gay rights.
In other words, he’s right with Obama on No. 2, probably somewhere in Obama's neighborhood on No. 3, and had Obama actually been in the Senate in 2002, might have been in Obama's neighborhood on No. 1.

Over at Huff Post, Bil Browning claims Barack Obama will name Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh as his vice-presidential candidate tomorrow morning.

Obama kicks more sand in lib faces with Veneman
What else can you say about the fact that his VP vetters are supposedly looking at Ann Veneman, Bush’s first Secretary of Agriculture?
I don’t give a damn if she now heads UNICEF. As Ag Secretary, and before, she was HUGELY anti-enviro and has never apologized for that.
She was also HUGELY anti-regulatory and protective of Big Ag. Given that we’ve have just pushed through a totally unnecessary four-month odyssey to find the source of the Saintpaul salmonella outbreak – totally unnecessary if we had Canadian or EU-style agricultural product source and distribution regs – we’ve got a big irony alert and a jarring lack of political timing on this issue.

Obama Veepstakes gets feh again
Neither Sam Nunn nor Even Bayh says pizzazz as Veep. And, if you wanted the national security issue defused, with an attack dog, pick Wes Clark.
Beyond THAT, though, as TPM reminds us, is Bayh’s neocon past. Even better, listen to Bayh’s lame-o excuse:
Didn’t Hillary Clinton say the same thing and get excoriated for it by Obamiacs?
Answer? Yes.
That said, given events of the last month, I would be totally unsurprised if B.O. actually tapped Bayh.

Obama has no chance of winning Texas, so scratch that idea. He has a chance of winning Virginia, among Southern states; Edwards helps him not a lick there.
(Obama will NOT have a chance of winning Georgia, Democrats, because Cynthia McKinney’s Green pull will negate Bob Barr’s Libertarian pull.)
So, the only way Obama should look for a southern Democrat as Veep is if he or she comes from Virginia or, of course, from Florida.
And, if that’s not stupid enough, the idea that Chet Edwards is a “progressive” is laughable.

Shorter Jim Webb: Obama doesn’t want me
Jim Webb’s “I’m removing myself from consideration” comment is what ANY vice-presidential candidate says when they realize, for whatever reason, they’re not getting traction.
In spades, it’s what any VP candidate like Webb says, after extensively polishing their own apple and realizing they’re not getting traction.
Now, Webb can go back to providing Obama flak on some military issues while allowing some Democrats to continue to indulge the idea that if they would just embrace their inner Bubba, they would win some red states.

Smell the Obama ‘change’ in the Veepstakes
So Sam Nunn, who’s been out of office a decade, and John Edwards, who wouldn’t even campaign as a Veep four years ago, are the latest rumor-monged names on Barack Obama’s short list.
Coming from the same ‘agent of change’ (admittedly, he didn’t like the slogan himself at first) who has Warren Christopher, aka Dracula, as a top foreign policy advisor, this isn’t surprising.
Because Barack Obama is Just.Another.Politician.™
Will the JAP filibuster the FISA renewal bill when it gets to the Senate?
