Behind Pakistan floods, is water shortages

I had no idea it was so bad that the Indus River, like the Colorado, no longer even makes it to sea because it's so overappropriated.

That said, instead of just passing out dam building advice, the Obama Administration should also be passing out birth control advice. (As we should be doing in Iraq, Mexico, Guatemala and all sorts of other places. And India — especially since the Hindu Nationalist Party still seems to have this idea of "winning" a population race with China.)

If Pakistan's population is expected to increase by 50 million in just a decade, NOTHING is more important than preaching birth control, and providing pills, condoms, diaphragms and anything else. In fact, in such cases, we ought to require that birth control goes along with other foreign aid.

Question, though: Does Obama have guts enough to even suggest that?

Avoid pregnancy and miss Mr. Right?

New genetic research and mapping is providing a welter of information about genetic groupings and mappings within Europe.

A few tidbits:
1. The research indicates and supports theories of three major prehistoric migrations into Europe
2. The Italians have a bit more genetic isolation than much of Europe, with the barrier of the Alps presumed why;
3. The Finns have even more isolation, with the explanation they started from a small, isolated core population that ballooned; speaking a non-Indo-European language may have helped, of course.

Controlling birth control, or abortion by any other name …

Would simply be called “birth control” by most Americans.

However, Bush’s Department of Health and Human Services is not “most Americans.”

A draft version of a proposed HHS rule would, in essence, call birth control pills, and IUDs, among other things, “abortifactants,” and deny federal funds to hospitals that prescribe them.

Religious hypocrisy on birth control

So, it’s against God’s will to interfere with life by aborting a fetus when you have seven because of fertility drugs, but it’s NOT against God’s will to “accept facts,” but instead take fertility drugs in the first place?

Or, to carry this a step further.

If you’re the Pope, it’s against God’s will to interfere with the reproductive process b y using condoms or birth control pills, but it’s NOT against God’s will to interfere with the reproductive process by taking fertility drugs.
