A skeptical leftist's, or post-capitalist's, or eco-socialist's blog, including skepticism about leftism (and related things under other labels), but even more about other issues of politics. Free of duopoly and minor party ties. Also, a skeptical look at Gnu Atheism, religion, social sciences, more.
Note: Labels can help describe people but should never be used to pin them to an anthill.

Marines want to hog Route 66
The U.S. Marine Corps wants to expand its Twentynine Palms, Calif., air-ground combat training area, to the east (the city is northwest of Joshua Tree National Park). But cities in the Mojave Desert worry that the expansion would clog up a major section of old Route 66.

Be all the criminal you can be
Time to update that old Army commercial. Sexual assault? Not a problem. Manslaughter? You’re in.
Nine people with sex crimes convictions and six with manslaughter or vehicular homicide convictions got into the Army and Marines last year.
Now, yes, that’s a piddling amount of the 180,000 people the two services recruit, but it is above zero. Of course, the coming recession may change that.
The Army can instead recruit house and vehicle arsonists.
