DeSoto TX white elephant finally "dies"

Five years ago, the DeSoto Economic Development Corporation built a "spec" building. Other area EDC heads said this was a BIG no-no. And, so it was for five years, when, late last month, it was finally sold -- to a church, not a high ranker on economic development.

DeSoto (Texas) losing war on graffiti?

Dallas suburb DeSoto, of the Best Southwest, needs to get its public works people, or whomever, busy!

The Town Center complex, housing city hall and other buildings, abuts Ten Mile Creek, with the Roy Orr Trail for hikers and walkers creekside.

A number of its concrete abutments are graffiti-infested. Some old spots have had graffiti removed, but it looks like that was six months or more ago. It’s an eyesore in the making.

Always check ratings and more on apartments

Now that my current landlord has increased the check-out liability period from one month to two (recession should be BETTER for apts with housing bubble burst, so it ain’t needed) AND dinged me a fine on something not totally my fault, and a mental slip to the degree it was,

ALWAYS… visit apartment ratings sites before leasing. And believe them.

Not to name names, but, if you’re looking at 212 W. Wintergreen Road in DeSoto, suburban Dallas, Texas, do investigate first.

More than bluebonnets in Texas spring

Texas is renowned for its bluebonnets in April, along with other wildflowers. But, that’s not the only thing blooming this time of year.

This is a red oak, caught at just the right time of starting to put on leaves on this particular branch. This is in Windmill Hill Nature Preserve in DeSoto, suburban Dallas.

I shoot (currently) with a Canon Digital Rebel. (When the 50D, or 40D-X, or whatever comes out to knock the price down on a 40D, then I upgrade.)

I shot this with the starter 18-55 lens at about 50mm and a 5.0 on the f-stop.

And, about a year ago, I started a “Reflections” journaling project for myself, to do a haiku on a semi-regular basis to accompany “around town” photography of mine. It’s time to move that here to the blog.

Red oak starts spring red
Different color for life
Than other new growth;

But quick to green, then
In fall, to red again, and
Completes its cycle.
