Arab League goes hypocritical on Libya

Did the Arab League, whose support for the current air action against Libya was crucial to internationalizing its support, really think there would be no casualties? Or, did you think the U.S. wouldn't make the no-fly zone easier to enforce by taking out Ligyan air capacity?

Stop complaining, whether it's from hypocrisy or cluelessness.

That said, it's really not "internationalized." It's the U.s., with a dash of lapdog Britain and a little French opening elan, since President Nicolas Sarkozy is facing an election soon. Surprised Berlusconi isn't flying a few planes over Libya to obscure his possibly pending trial.

Meanwhile, U.S. talking heads are all over the place on this issue. Neocons talking abou8t our image in the Arab world. What a laugh.

Il procurer Berlusconi

Silvio Berlusconi is looking more and more like the Hugh Hefner Bob Guccione of Italy. The lede graf from the Times of London tells all:
He has made no secret of his love of women but the sex scandal surrounding Silvio Berlusconi is now threatening to topple him, as more claims emerge of the systematic recruitment of young women paid to attend private parties at his homes in Rome and Sardinia.

“Recruitment,” eh? I’d call it being a procurer. Or a pimp.

Don’t stop with the lede, though. Read the whole thing in juicy detail. Does the phrase “hostess service,” as in a “hostess service” being the source of some of these women, whet your salacious appetite?

Guess who Silvio’s bringing to dinner?

The Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has physical taste in women (pic at link), even if they’re nearly 50 years younger than him. Assuming this is a relationship, I wonder when it started and what sort of statutory rape law Italy may have.

Are Italian voters as dumb as American ones

It sounds like it. After the collapse of the left-of-center Romano Prodi government, Italy faces snap parliamentary elections in April, and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who forced the collapse by refusing to agree to election reforms, is well in the lead..
