No, really. Like Pakistan or something.
And, no, you don't have to be poor to be a failing state. Remember Weimar Germany before it moved from "failing" to "failed"?
With that, let's dig in to this overview piece; in the next couple of months, I'll tackle some more specifics. I intend to dive into increasing tribalism and sclerosis in electoral politics, the sclerosis and worse of the U.S. constitution, financial issues, a failing government on economics, the American imperium, foreign insertion into American politics and the selective weaponization of that, and more.
As a sampler?
Remember how FDR touted America as the "arsenal of democracy" during the time, basically, from the Fall of France to Pearl Harbor? Well, in Maricopa County, Aridzona, the elections folks were so worried about someone of the #MAGAts type persuasion bringing an arsenal to attack democracy that they turned election headquarters into a fortress.
Related? The SCOTUS ruling on Trump's ballot access in Colorado opened the door to nationalize presidential elections. Democrats don't have the balls to do that, and Republicans simply won't. And, should a private citizen sue over that? Today's Supreme Court will rule they don't have standing.
Electoral College? At one time, Democrats kept pushing for an amendment to abolish it. Now, they seem to have dropped it. That, in turn, seems to be related to their ongoing attempts at third-party ballot access suppression. Despite Georgia's absolute majority election requirements twice in the last couple of decades or so potentially costing Republicans seats in the U.S. Senate from there, due to Libertarian Party numbers, do you ever hear the GOP bitch about Libertarians the way Democrats do about Greens?
The above all relate to the tribalism of American politics, along with its sclerosis.

The Greens have been taken over by tankies and fascists starting in 2004, which you support. Fascism is the organization of social and economic decay, you are all for that since you support the PSL tankies. You could be hanging upside down like the guy in Italy after WW2...
Nice to see you've switched to "anonymous," Cort Greene. This one was obvious. And now, I'll make the reasonable-to-be assumption that that was you commenting on my Schrödinger's cat critique, too.
