Red light cams DO increase rear-end collisions

The Federal Highway Administration shows that, while they decrease side-impact crashes 25 percent, they also rear-end collisions 15 percent. Solutions mentioned include lengthening yellow lights by 1 second and making traffic signals more visible.

I’ll mention one other: Clearly explaining to the public exactly what triggers the camera. Is it that your car isn’t clear of an intersection when the light turns red? Your tip of your front end isn’t clear? The back end isn’t all the way into the intersection? You’re not in the intersection at all? You’re 20 feet away?
