After getting multiple calls from this number, which shows up on caller ID as just the number, with no individual or company name, I was perturbed enough to wonder who this was. A Google search led to WhoCalled.us, where the answer was revealed to be … MCI.
Supposedly, it’s a computer-generated dialer, with an automated sales pitch if you pick up the phone. This is an obvious violation of the federal Do Not Call registry; that’s why you need to contact the Federal Trade Commission if you are called.
Oh, and their customer service webpage, for comments if you’re contacted, is here.
A skeptical leftist's, or post-capitalist's, or eco-socialist's blog, including skepticism about leftism (and related things under other labels), but even more about other issues of politics. Free of duopoly and minor party ties. Also, a skeptical look at Gnu Atheism, religion, social sciences, more.
Note: Labels can help describe people but should never be used to pin them to an anthill.

just got another one. have always ignored in the past but decided to look it up finally. thanks for posting info.
ReplyDeleteI received a call from this number today. Ostensibly from MCI, they said my canceled account was being billed and I should call a "customer service " number to settle the account. I believe this is a scam - just to get a credit card number from you at a number you've dialed.
ReplyDeleteI get these calls upwards of 9 times a day. The first few time I answered I endeded up getting threatened that they were going to shut off my phone for nonpayment of my MCI bill...ironic, since I have NEVER used MCI for anything.
