Hypocrisy alert – Obama and Clinton suck on Big Oil tit

Derrick Jackson has the lowdown on how both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are among top campaign money recipients from Exxon, Chevron and BP.
In the 2008 election cycle, the second-biggest recipient of contributions from Exxon – after the $39,730 for Sen. John Cornyn, Republican of Texas – is Mr. Obama, at $23,550. Mrs. Clinton is in fourth place, at $15,700. Both are ahead of the $8,450 for John McCain, the virtual nominee of the Republican Party. …

Guess who is now No. 3 in money from Chevron in the 2008 cycle? Mrs. Clinton, at $9,350. Mr. Obama is seventh, at $7,263. Again, both are ahead of Mr. McCain’s $5,500. …

How about British Petroleum? The No. 2 recipient in the current cycle is Mr. Obama, at $10,196, more than double what BP has given to (Alaska Senator Ted) Stevens.

To be fair, Jackson does note that McCain has gotten more total oil money than Obama or Clinton.

But, it’s clear that Big Oil is paying for “access,” and expecting a Democratic presidential victory.

The Big Oil bill? Watered-down action on global warming and carbon caps, no more tightening of fuel economy standards, no removal of oil drilling “incentives,” etc.

Don’t be surprised if Obama, should he get elected, is willing to pay off that bill for at least 50 cents on the dollar.
